Dolphin, a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi government, Total and Occidental Petroleum, said in November that it has invited nine groups including Technip SA and Snamprogetti to tender to construct the Fujairah pipeline. Bids are due by 31 January, and the winning group will be selected “before the summer”. Last July, Dolphin started delivering gas from Qatar’s North Field through a subsea pipeline to Taweelah as part of its $3.5-billion project to meet soaring power demand in the UAE, the second-biggest Arab economy after Saudi Arabia.

GERMAN steelmaker Salzgitter has been awarded a contract, worth more than $200 million, by Dolphin Energy Ltd to supply the 48-in diameter pipes that will be used to construct the 240-km long pipeline to transport gas across the UAE. Salzgitter’s 120,000 tons of pipe for the Fujairah gas pipeline project will link Taweelah on Abu Dhabi’s Persian Gulf coast with Qidfa on Fujairah’s coast, which has direct access to the Indian Ocean.
