The project’s equity structure will be 49% government and 51% private sector. The project consists of development and operation of an 8-in diameter multi-product pipeline from either Eldoret or Kisumu, in Kenya, to Kampala in Uganda, via Malaba and Jinja, a distance of approximately 320km. There will be a common user depot at the pipeline terminal in Kampala, with a capacity of 1.2 million brl/yr.
Currently, 26 companies have expressed interest in participating in the joint venture to run the Kenya-Uganda oil pipeline. They include companies from Ugandan, South African, China, France, India, and Korea,and their bids are being evaluated at present.
