The pipeline will carry Russian gas from Gryazovets in Vologda Oblast, to Vyborg in the Republic of Karelia, where it will connect to the Nord Stream Pipeline.
So far, 597 km of the 1,400 mm diameter pipeline has been commissioned.
The 1,220 km Nord Stream Gas Pipeline is scheduled to begin construction in early 2010, and has a planned capacity of 55 Bcm/a of natural gas. The pipeline will link Russia and the European Union via the Baltic Sea.
The Nord Stream Pipeline will be owned and operated by Nord Stream AG, which is an international joint venture between Gazprom, BASF/Wintershall AG, E.ON Ruhrgas AG and N.V Nederlandse Gasunie.
