ABB lands Abu Dhabi oil pipeline contract
Tue, 10 November 2009
ABB has signed a contract worth $US21 million with China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation to design and supply an integrated electrical control system for the Abu Dhabi crude oil pipeline project.
The 400 km, 48 inch diameter pipeline runs from Habshan in Abu Dhabi to the Abu Dhabi Company onshore oil operation facility. The pipeline will transport an estimated 1.5 MMbbl/d to the main terminal in Fujairah in the northern emirates, reducing shipping congestion in the Strait of Hormuz.
ABB Head of the Process Automation Division in the Middle East and Africa Mr Bjarte Pedersen said “As a proven performer in the oil and gas industry, ABB is proud to be a part of this landmark project in the United Arab Emirates.”
Construction on the project began in early 2008 and is scheduled to be completed by August 2011.
