Kuwait’s Central Tenders Committee has approved a proposal from Swiss firm ABB Engineering Technologies Company to construct a cross-country crude oil pipeline connecting northern Kuwait to Ahmadi, on Kuwait Bay.
Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has signed a $US166 million contract with ABB, which will see the construction of the 123 km, 30 inch diameter pipeline from KOC’s crude oil gathering centres in northern Kuwait to a new central mixing manifold and the North Tank Farm at Ahmadi.
With a proposed capacity of 315MMbbl/d, the new pipeline will include a leak-detection system and metering station, along with associated instrumentation and electrical works.
A 16 inch diameter, 60 km pipeline will also be constructed from the existing TL 3 Pipeline to the Subiya Power Station.
KOC Deputy Chairman Mohamed Hussain and ABB Group Senior Vice President and Regional Manager for India, the Middle East and Africa Frank Duggan signed the contract on 17 May 2010.
