“Sonatrach is looking for opportunities upstream, and participation in a plant,” he the minister is reported as saying at a gas conference in Qatar. He said that Sonatrach would be ideal to work with because of its experience in the pan-African pipeline between Nigeria to Algeria, although this pipeline has not yet been constructed. He added that Gazprom was also interested: “We have signed an agreement with Gazprom,” Mr Ramirez said, “and they are very experienced in building such pipelines.”

Algeria and Venezuela to sign pipeline and LNG terminal deals

DURING A recent visit to Algeria, a Venezuelan delegation signed two agreements with Algerian oil company Sonatrach concerning construction of a $10-billion gas pipeline from Venezuela to Argentina, and a $2-billion LNG terminal. The pipeline will be built from Venezuela to Brazil in its first phase, and will extend to Argentina in a second phase, Venezuelan oil minister Rafael Ramirez said, while the LNG terminal will be in the east of Venezuela, at Guiria.
