Wed, 19 September 2007
THE governments of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon have agreed to turn the Arab gas pipeline into an Arab network and have it linked to the European network after Iraq’s joining, the Egyptian oil minister said in mid-August. Samih Fahmi made his remarks during a meeting with Syrian Minister of Oil Sufiyan al-Aw, Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Khalid Shraydah, and Lebanese Acting Energy Minister Muhammad al-Safdi. Studies are under way on how to benefit from other gas resources in Iran and Russia to be pumped through this grid to increase economic revenues for participating countries, he pointed out.
