ARGENTINA’S government has signed an agreement with local company Emgasud for construction of the $81.5-million 610-km Patagonia pipeline, which will supply gas to 80,000 people in the provinces of Chubut, Rio Negro and Neuquen in Argentina’s Patagonia region.
President Nestor Kirchner and federal planning minister Julio de Vido signed the agreement with Emgasud officials and Chubut province governor Mario das Neves.
The 10-12in diameter pipeline will transport 1.01mm cum/d of gas, de Vido said. Chubut province will invest $25 million in the project, the federal government $17 million, Emgasud $20 million, private sector sources $8 million, and the remainder will come from a sales tax rebate.
