Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas SA and Saipem have been awarded a contract from Enagas to construct the subsea Balearic gas pipeline. Construction is planned to begin in October, 2008, and due to be completed by June 2009.
The 20-in diameter, 220-bar Denia-Ibiza-Mallorca gas pipeline will comprise two sections. The first, from Denia to Punta de Cala Gració (Ibiza), will be 123km long, and at a maximum depth of 997m. The second stretch, from San Antonio de Portmany (Ibiza) to the San Juan de Dios (Mallorca) thermal power station will be 145km long, with a maximum depth of 718m.
The Spanish Directorate-General for Energy Policy and Mines has authorized Enagas to proceed with the construction of the pipeline, which will transport a maximum volume of 676,00cum/yr of gas, which will reach Mallorca with a pressure of 80 bar.
