The Baltic Sea port of Primorsk has also been expanded, and is one of Russia’s biggest projects, totalling around $2.2bn. The port’s increased capacity means that four tankers with a displacement of 100,000 tons each can be received simultaneously. Khristenko said state-owned oil pipeline monopoly Transneft, which is the operator of the Baltic pipeline system, had paid off almost all the loans it had taken out for the project.
