Bangladesh plans Maheshkhali to Anwara pipeline
Wed, 11 May 2011
A 90 km pipeline from Maheshkhali to Anwara will be part of Bangladesh’s plans to import LNG in order to reduce its dependency on imported oil and indigenous gas, according to the Bangladesh Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) has said that it is in the process of arranging a Memorandum of Understanding to be signed with Qatar, with plans to import LNG at a rate of 500 MMcf/d by 2012.
In addition to the pipeline, other infrastructure required to support this plan will include a LNG receiving station and LNG storage tank.
The EMRD has said that it has already located a site where the infrastructure will be built.
