The ageing sewers in this part of Dublin were in serious need of rehabilitation, and relining provides a cost-effective and efficient solution with minimum disruption to traffic and other road users. The GRC liner is inserted and pressure grouted to the existing sewer wall, extending the life of the sewer and providing full structural support.

E & M produced a complex GRC liner for the Summerhill Parade project that was both very tall (2m high) and very slender (600mm wide) to suit the dimensions of the existing sewer. Liners are generally made as large as possible so that the grouted gap between the liner and sewer wall is as small as possible, making it more resilient to water pressure and ground movement.

GRC is a versatile and cost-effective material that offers several advantages over glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) in sewer applications. GRC is stiffer than GRP and bonds well with the grout lining; it is more acid and alkali resistant, and not as susceptible to rodent attack.
