Three companies have submitted bids to build the 37.2 km Transmagallanico subsea pipeline to connect the island of Tierra del Fuego with mainland Argentina, according to Buenos Aires daily Clarin, citing gas regulator Enargas sources.
Saipem, Global Industries, and Odebrecht of Brazil are said to have bid for the project. The winner of the tender is expected to be announced shortly, and the cost of the project is estimated at $US250 million, according to a federal planning ministry source.

An earlier tender for the pipeline, announced last year, failed as a result of the general economic situation and a shortfall in the budget available for the work. The only bidder to qualify (Odebrecht-Global Industries) withdrew from the bidding process, and the tendering process was postponed.
