AMBO is currently understood to be carrying out negotiations with engineering and construction companies interested in the project, among which are several Bulgarian engineering companies. Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Albania signed the convention for the pipeline in the end of January, and the parliaments of the three countries are expected to ratify this soon. The 900-km long pipeline will cost an estimated $1.8bn, and will probably come into service at the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011. Bulgaria anticipated an income of $60m/yr from the project. However, at present, AMBO is understood still to lack contracts with an oil company, although a number of oil tanker owners are interested in the project.
