Bulgaria’s Minister for Economy, Energy and Tourism Traycho Traykov, and Serbia’s Minister for Mining and Energy Petar Škundrić have signed a joint statement paving the way for the proposed Bulgaria – Serbia Gas Pipeline.
The statement outlines the next steps to be taken for the project and invites the assistance of the European Commission and the international financial institutions with regard to preparation and related studies for the project.
European Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger said that the Commission was ready to support the preparation and implementation of the project as well as offer financial support under regional development and enlargements programs.
“This gas interconnector is part of our strategy to link with our neighbours, which also includes interconnections with Romania, Greece and the possibility of physical reverse flow with Turkey,” said Mr Traykov.
Mr Škundrić added “Together with the substantial underground gas storage capacities currently being developed in Banatski Dvor, and in the future also in Vojvodina, the bi-directional Bulgaria – Serbia Gas Pipeline will increase the flexibility of Serbia’s gas supply.”
