The second phase of the MDP comprises an approximately 80 km pipeline, which will connect Salaya with the Bhogat terminal on the Arabian Sea coast, and a pipeline between the terminal and the marine facilities.

Approvals for the Salaya – Bhogat pipeline have been obtained, and land has been purchased to enable construction to start.

The pipeline extension project consists of three main components: 1. The extension of the pipeline with associated heating stations from Salaya to the Bhogat terminal. 2. The storage of coastal crude oil at the terminal in Bhogat. 3. The construction of marine export facilities, consisting of twin 24 inch diameter subsea pipelines, which will connect the Bhogat terminal to the single point mooring (SPM). The SPM is located approximately 6 km offshore in the Arabian Sea.

In May 2010, Cairn India successfully commissioned the first phase of the MDP, the Mangala – Salaya heated crude oil pipeline, which extends 590 km from the Thar deserts of Rajasthan to the Gujarati coast.
