The United States Senate Commerce Committee has unanimously passed the Pipeline Transportation Safety Improvement Act 2011, which will require pipeline operators in the country to improve safety technology and increase recording and reporting standards.

Canada is one of the world’s biggest producers of petroleum; ranked third in the world in natural gas production and sixth in oil. It produces 16.2 Bcf/d of natural gas and 2.2 Bbbl/d of oil.
