The Xinjiang Division of the China West Pipeline Project reports that the western oil-products pipeline will be commissioned shortly. The pipeline is designed to transport about 30m tons/yr of crude oil and hydrocarbon products to meet the energy needs of the east of the country.
The West [Oil Products] Pipeline (WP for short) runs from Urumchi, in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and terminates at Lanzhou in Gansu Province. It has been designed to move 20m tons/yr of crude oil and 10m tons/yr of hydrocarbon products. With a total investment of $1.8bn, the pipeline is one of the most modern and highly-automated in China.
Xinjiang is rich in gas and petroleum reserves, and produces around 22m tons/yr.
