HONG KONG-based PetroChina, wholly-owned by the China National Petroleum eh first Corporation, announced this month (February) that it was planning construction of the first sections of the 4000-km long West-East gas pipeline project. The sections in question are the crossings of the Yangtze River, Yellow,and the Huaihe Rivers, as well as the sections from Jiangsu Province to Shanghai, and Lunnan to Korla in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
According to the construction plan released by PetroChina, the company will then launch the full-length construction of the pipeline project in the first half of this year. The project’s first major section will extends from Jingbian in Shanxi Province to Shanghai, and is
planned for completion and being put into operation by early 2004.
The other main section, from Lunnan to Jingbian, will be completed in the first half of 2005, and will mark the completion of the whole project..
