The guidelines cover most large-scale CO2 transmission projects, and will apply to new onshore and offshore lines which carry fluids with a high CO2 content, as well as to pipelines carrying CO2 captured from hydrocarbon streams.
DNV Project Manager Kaare Helle said “The development of the guideline has given us excellent insight into transporting large quantities of high pressure, dense phase CO2. It reflects the best available international practise and knowledge, ongoing international research, and DNV expertise.”
Partners involved in the project so far have been StatoilHydro, BP, Shell, Vattenfall, Dong Energy, ArcelorMittal, Gassnova, Gassco, ILF, Petrobras, BG Group and Chevron. In addition, government representatives from the UK, Netherlands and Norway have been involved in the process.
