Construction complete on Habshan – Fujairah oil pipeline
Pipelines International — March 2011
Construction of the 370 km Habshan – Fujairah oil pipeline in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, has been completed.
The 48 inch diameter pipeline will transport 1.5 MMbbl/d of oil from Abu Dhabi’s oil fields in the southwestern part of the UAE to Fujairah on the Emirates’ eastern coast, bypassing the congested Hormuz Strait.
State-owned International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) contracted China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation to carry out the engineering, procurement and construction services (EPC) on the pipeline.
The pipeline includes a 14 km offshore section, terminal stations, oil storage tanks, and offshore mooring devices.
IPIC has said that the project aims to offset reliance on Persian Gulf oil terminals while reducing shipping congestion through the Strait of Hormuz.
