SOUTH AFRICAN contractor WBHO Construction, in joint venture with Shearwater Construction, has been awarded an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build a gas pipeline from Ressano Garcia to Matola in Mozambique.
The pipeline will bring gas to industrial customers in Matola and Maputo, including the Mozal aluminium smelter.
The £10.5-million contract, which was awarded by the Matola Gas Co SARL, calls for the design and construction of a 8-in (200-mm) diameter, 100km long pipeline to take gas from Sasol’s main line near Ressano Garcia, reduce the pressure from approximately 100bar to 40bar, and transport it to Matola where the pressure will be reduced further to 10bar prior to distribution. It was designed by VGI Consulting Engineers. The pipeline contract was awarded in June, and is scheduled for commissioning in May, 2005.
