PAPCO is a joint venture company formed by the Pak-Arab Refinery Ltd (PARCO) and several of Pakistan’s major oil marketing companies. PARCO believes it is only the third oil pipeline company in the world to transport crude and products simultaneously. The white oil pipeline is being built to cover 817km from Karachi to Mahmood Kot in Pakistan, and will provide another cross-country pipeline infrastructure of major significance. The pipeline will transport refined petroleum products to the central and Northern regions of Pakistan, once the current pipeline network is converted to transport solely crude oil. The northern region accounts for almost 60% of the country’s total petroleum consumption, which is expected to increase significantly in the near future. With an eventual capacity of 12 million tons per year, the pipeline will help meet this growing need for energy, as well as augment the country’s infrastructure, streamline energy logistics, and support the national economy. This pipeline should also offer environmental benefits by reducing the company’s dependence on road transport for moving its products.
