EMAT technology is now readily available via PII, and EmatScan CD is an unique solution available to gas pipeline operators with specific problems assessing longitudinal cracks. EmatScan CD detects and precisely measures longitudinal cracks in gas transmission pipelines without the need for a liquid coupling medium. Operators of gas and other dry pipelines can therefore now identify early signs of fatigue, stress-corrosion cracking, and other forms of axially-oriented cracking. This process is the first successful application of the well-proven EMAT technology to the pipeline in-line inspection environment. Cracks as short as 30mm and as shallow as 1mm can be detected, according to PII’s claims, delivering high-resolution crack detection in gas lines without the need for a liquid batch.
