Following the temporary suspension of some gas-production activities in Libya, supplies of natural gas from Libya through the Greenstream Pipeline have been suspended.
Eni says that despite this, it is still able to meet its customers’ demand for gas.
The 520 km long, 32 inch diameter Greenstream connects Libya to Sicily and Italy and, according to Eni, is the longest underwater pipeline in the Mediterranean Sea. It is part of the Western Libyan Gas Project and includes the Mellitah compressor station on the Libyan coast, the underwater gas pipeline, and the reception terminal at Gela, in Sicily.
Currently Libya supplies around 10 per cent of Italy’s gas needs.
