Iraq’s South Oil Company (SOC) has awarded Foster Wheeler a project management consultancy (PMC) services contract for the Iraq Crude Oil Export Expansion Project, located onshore in southern Iraq and offshore in Iraqi waters.
The scope of work to be completed under the agreement includes construction of a 10 km onshore pipeline and a 60 km offshore pipeline, both 48 inches in diameter, along with the installation of valve stations at the Basra and Khor al-Amaya oil terminals.
Foster Wheeler will also be responsible for the installation of three single-point mooring buoys with a pipeline end manifold near the Basra terminal, a central manifold and metering platform in the Persian Gulf, tie-in branch pipelines, composite cables, and auxiliary facilities.
The company will monitor and administer purchase orders and contracts placed by SOC in accordance with recommendations it makes as part of the basic engineering contract. Awards overseen by the company will include long-lead equipment items such as pipelines, valves and the single-point moorings and the offshore and onshore engineering, procurement, and construction contract.
SOC is carrying out the project with the aim of increasing Iraq's export capacity from the Basra oil terminal from 1.8 MMbbl/d to 4.5 MMbbl/d by 2014.
