Florida’s Public Service Commission has denied Florida Power & Light’s (FPLs) proposal to construct a $US1.5 billion pipeline through 14 counties in Florida, United States.
In denying FPL’s petition, the Commission weighed several factors including the availability of existing pipeline capacity and whether the proposed pipeline was the most cost effective and reliable source of natural gas supply, transport and delivery. The commission determined that FPL did not prove its EnergySecure Pipeline was the most cost effective alternative to ensure long term gas supply to Florida’s rate payers.
The 30 inch diameter, 483 km pipeline was proposed for construction in the eastern portion of the state from Martin County to Bradford County and would have been operational by January 2014.
The Commission has ordered that the project be rebid.
