THE state-owned Gail has announced its plans to lay a 850-km long pipeline from Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh state, at a cost $1 billion to, enable it to transport LNG to West Bengal by the end of 2006.
The pipeline, with a capacity to carry 20 million cum/d of gas, will serve as one of the 15 ‘limbs’ of the proposed national gas grid, and will be connected with the Hazira-Bijaipur-Jagdishpur (HBJ) and Dahej-Hazira pipelines.
A detailed feasibility report on the pipeline is being prepared, detailed route surveys are under way, and commissioning is due to start in October.
