INDIA’S gas major, Gail (India) Ltd, has plans to make the Dahej-Hazira-Uran pipeline the country’s first bi-directional natural gas pipeline.
According to the plan, the £186-million pipeline will both carry gas from Dahej to Uran and will also have the provision for reverse flow of gas from Uran to Hazira.
Proshanto Banerjee, CMO of Gail, said that presently all the company’s gas pipelines are uni-directional. “As our plan is to connect any source to any market, we have now planned to have bi-directional flow of gas in most of our future gas pipelines, which will be part of the national gas grid.”
The state-owned Gail has recently appointed Tractebel of Belgium as the project management consultant for its Dahej-Uran pipeline, which will be used for supplying re-gassified LNG and natural gas from Dahej and Hazira to consumers in the western region including Uran, Trombay, Thane, Nasik, Panvel and other regions in Maharashtra.
