The pipeline was initially expected to be brought online in 2012 however delays in the authorisation process have set back the commissioning date.

The Chairman of the consortium constructing the pipeline Roberto Poti has said that authorisation is expected by the year’s end and that construction was anticipated to commence in 2011.

The 8 Bcm capacity pipeline will run along the Mediterranean seabed from Algeria’s eastern border to Italy’s mainland via the island of Sardinia.

The Galsi Pipeline consortium comprises of Algeria’s Sonatrach, Italy’s Edison, Enel and Hera and the Sardinia regional government.
