National Grid Transco has retained the North West, East of England, West Midlands, and London networks with the intention of operating them as a single entity – NGT UK Distribution. The North of England network is now known as Northern Gas Networks, and is owned by a consortium comprising Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Ltd, Hong Kong Electric Holdings Ltd, Li Ka Shing (Overseas) Foundation, United Utilities plc, Challenger Financial Services Group, and SAS Trustee Corporation. Basil Scarsella is the chief executive officer of Northern Gas Networks Ltd, and the network will be operated by United Utilities Operations Ltd, where Martin Bradbury is the managing director. The Wales & West network is now Wales and West Utilities. It has been acquired by a consortium led by Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund. The network will be owned and operated by Wales and West Utilities Ltd, where Graham Edwards has been appointed CEO. Dave Thomas and Chris Talbot – both ex-National Grid Transco – are chief procurement officer and general counsel, respectively. The Scotland and South of England networks are now known as Scotland Gas Networks and Southern Gas Networks. They have been acquired by Scotia Gas Networks plc, which is owned by a consortium comprising Scottish & Southern Energy plc, Borealis Infrastructure Management Inc, and Ontario Teachers Pension Plan Board. John Morea has been appointed chief operating officer of Scotia Gas Networks.
