Gazprom seeks to link Shtokman pipelines with Norway’s networks

Gazprom is looking to link up its pipeline network with those of Norsk Hydro and Statoil, giving Norway direct access to gas from the huge Shtokman field once it comes on stream, deputy managing director Alexander Riazanov said recently. A decision on the link-up would be taken once the second stage of the Barents Sea project is completed, Riazanov said.
Linking Russia's pipelines to Norway's would involve building an undersea pipeline, he said, adding that Norway's own gas reserves will run out within eight years. Statoil and Norsk Hydro are two of the five foreign companies that Gazprom has shortlisted for participation in the $20-bn Shtokman development. The others are ConocoPhillips, ChevronTexaco, and Total. Russian gas giant Gazprom has said it will select one or more partners for the project this summer.
