Tue, 10 November 2009
Greece’s Deputy Minister for Environment, Energy and Climate Change Ionnis Maniatis has met with representatives for the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to discuss the progress of the project.
The 520 km TAP project is currently in the front-end engineering design stage. TAP joint venture partners Swiss EGL Group and Norway's Statoil (formerly StatoilHydro), have recently completed a three month data collecting tour of Albania and Italy as part of its route refining process.
The project will transport natural gas from the Caspian Sea and Middle East regions to Europe. The gas pipeline will begin near Thessaloniki, Greece, and cross through Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before ending near Brindisi, Italy.
TAP will tie into the existing national gas systems in Greece and Italy. The project is aimed at enhancing both the security and the diversification of gas supplies for the European markets and the pipeline will have a 10 Bcm/a of gas with the possibility of increasing capacity to 20 Bcm/a.
