Hall Longmore completes Durban to Johannesburg pipe order
Wed, 27 October 2010
South African based Hall Longmore, a wholly-owned Murray & Roberts company, has completed manufacture of 720 km of steel pipe for Transnet’s Durban to Johannesburg New Multi-Products Pipeline (NMPP).
The total order comprised the manufacture and supply of approximately 560 km of 610 mm electric resistance welded (ERW) line pipe from the Durban harbour to Nigel, and approximately 160 km of 406 mm ERW line pipe for the inland fuel network.
Manufactured from X65 steel with a low sulphur content, the specification required the 18 m pipes to be coated with a high performance three-layer external coating.
Designed to transport petrol, diesel and jet fuel, the NMPP replaces the existing 40-year old 350 mm diameter multi-products pipeline.
The pipeline has also been designed to transport crude oil and the wet commissioning using crude oil will take place at a later stage.
