TO HELP pipeline and utilities contractors to improve the speed and accuracy of horizontal-directional-drilling operations, UK-based Radiodetection has introduced a new guidance system called I-Track.
It is said to track precisely the position of the drill head as it bores underground, and the system is claimed to ensure that projects are completed faster and within budget a well as with minimal disruption to local services.
There are three components: a receiver, a remote display, and a DataSonde. Each communicates with the others for powerful, reliable, tracking and guidance. Features include rapid and accurate location of the drill head without mislocations due to ‘ghosting’, automatic tracking and depth, remote steering capabilities, and down-hole frequency changes to overcome localized interference.
