THE government of Oman has awarded a $56-million contract to India’s Punj Lloyd to build a pipeline to supply gas to the country’s third liquefied natural gas plant.
According to a recent report, the state-run Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has awarded the contract to Punj Llyod who, in partnership with Oman’s Al Hassan Engineering, will construct the 250-km pipeline to bring gas from central Oman to the coastal city of Sur where Qalhat LNG is building a new plant, with a capacity to produce close to 5 million tons of LNG per year.
Majority state-owned PDO, of which Royal Dutch/Shell Group owns 34%, supplies gas to Oman LNG’s two existing plants that have a total capacity of 6.6 million tons per year.
