GAIL (India) Ltd is likely to foray into the Philippines as part of the company’s vision to increase its presence abroad. The company has city distribution, gas pipelines, and participation in bids for gas blocks on its agenda for its entry that country. GAIL chairman and managing director Proshanto Banerjee has said that a MoU was signed last year with the Philippines for co-operation in many areas. Following that, a team from GAIL went over to the Philippines recently to discuss the issues with the department of energy. GAIL would participate in a gas pipeline project from Batan to Manila. This project has been christened as Batman 1&2 trunkline. “GAIL is interested in laying, operating and maintaining the pipeline”, Banerjee said. In the Philippines, gas blocks are to be put up for bids very soon: GAIL is also interested in participating for exploration of these blocks.
