THE Indian Oil Corporation will lay a number of pipelines to transport aviation turbine fuel (ATF) to major airports across the country. Addressing a press conference in February, Dr N.G.Kannan, marketing director of IOC said an exclusive pipeline would be constructed between Chennai Petroleum Corporation’s Manali refineries and Chennai International Airport at Meenambakkam.
When commissioned, it would transport 1.2m li/d of ATF to Chennai Airport. Further pipelines for supplying ATF to the Dum Dum airport at Kolkata and the International Airport at Mumbai, connecting the nearest refineries in the respective places, were also being planned.
Dr Kannan said his company was also planning an ATF pipeline connecting the new internatinal airport at Bangalore with the IOC terminal at Devangundi. The Indo-Burma Petroleum Co Ltd (IBP), a new subsidiary of IOC, would also undertake laying a pipeline for the international airport project at Hyderabad.
