They said the gas flow would remain suspended until disputes including disagreement over the price have been resolved. Turkish Energy Minister Zeki Cakan arrived in Tehran in October to find a compromise on the disputes. Turkish energy officials said the price of Iranian gas, as well as its quality, would be renegotiated during talks in Tehran. Turkey suspended imports of natural gas through the pipeline from Iran in June, citing quality concerns. Iran rejected Turkish officials’ claims over the poor composition of the gas, and blamed Turkey’s economic problems for the decision to turn off the taps. After the gas imports stoppage by Turkey, Tehran threatened Ankara that it would ask for penalties if it failed to resume gas imports from the Islamic Republic. Iran started supplying 4Bcm of gas to Turkey in December, 2001. About 85% of that amount is subject to a take-or-pay clause.
