THE presidents of Pakistan and Iran are reported to have reached an agreement to establish a joint-venture to implement a gas pipeline project from Iran’s South Pars field to the Multan province of Pakistan. The j-v will be responsible for finance and construction of the project, the cost of which his put at around $7.5bn, according to the Pakistani Embassy in Iran.
The agreement to set up the joint-venture was firmed-up at a meeting at the UN General Assembly's summit in New York. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and President Asef Ali Zardari agreed initially to set up a committee of five high-ranking officials from both countries to start planning the 2700-km long pipeline project.
