Construction is underway on a new gas pipeline connecting Turkmenistan’s Dauletabad gas deposit with the Iranian border, Turkmenistan Deputy Prime Minister Baymyrat Khojamuhammedov has said.
“To date, 6.5 km of the Turkmen – Iran gas pipeline has been built, and another 18 km has been prepared for pipelaying work,” Mr Khojamuhammedov said.
The pipeline project is part of an agreement regarding increasing the sale of Turkmen natural gas to Iran to 14 Bcm/a. Of this, 6 Bcm will come from the Dovletabad gas deposit.
Mr Khojamuhammedov said the pipeline is set to be completed by the end of 2009.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani Government may have to accelerate activities on the Iran – Pakistan pipeline as the 5 September deadline for the project’s feasibility report looms. If the feasibility report is not completed by this date, Iran can choose to pull out of the project.
