ISRAELI contractor Solel Boneh Building and Infrastructure has won the contract for laying a 227-km long gas pipeline from Ashkelon to Sodom in Israel. The first section of the pipeline, 92km long, will be from Ashkelon to Ashdod, and will supply gas to the Israel Electric Corporation and Oil Refineries
. The second section, 135km long, will run from the Soreq interchange, near Ashdod, to Sodom. Once the project is completed, gas will be transported from the Yam Thetis gasfield to industrial plants all over Israel, and will replace oil, which is currently the main energy source.
