. Algeria currently supplies about a quarter of the European Union's gas imports. Of the 10bcm initial capacity, around 2bcm will be sold to Sardinian users, who presently have no natural gas on the island. The remaining 8bcm will be delivered to Tuscany and sold to Italian and European users via Snam Rete Gas SpAs network of pipelines, Edison said. The construction of the new pipeline is being carried out by Italian-Algerian consortium Galsi. Sonatrach owns 36% of Galsi, while other investors include Edison (Italy's largest power company) with 18%, Enel SpA with 13.5%, Wintershall with 13.5%, Hera Trading SpA with 9%, and Sfirs SpA and Progemisa SpA with 5% each.
