Buckeye Partners has received favourable responses from potential customers to transport natural gas liquids (NGLs) produced in the Marcellus Shale Basin in Pennsylvania, United States to the market in Sarnia, located in Ontario, Canada on its proposed Union Pipeline project.
Buckeye conducted its previously announced non-binding open season for the Union Pipeline during March 2010 to better define the potential demand for the proposed pipeline.
The expressions of interest received by Buckeye during the non-binding open season support continued development of engineering designs for the Union Pipeline.
The Union Pipeline project will consist of either a 12 inch or 16 inch pipeline to the Detroit area of Michigan. The pipeline will then continue north with a 12 inch pipeline through Michigan to Marysville and ultimately Sarnia, or continue toward Windsor, Ontario and will use existing pipeline to Sarnia.
Buckeye expects to hold a binding open season in mid-2010.
