A CONSORTIUM led by Punj Lloyd Ltd has been awarded the Sabah Sarawak gas pipeline project by Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Petronas, the state-owned oil and gas major. Other consortium partners are Dialog E & C Sdn Bhd and Petrosab Logistik Sdn Bhd. This will be the largest pipeline project in Malaysia, and will run through plantations and mountains in the states of Sabah and Sarawak in Eastern Malaysia’s island of Borneo.
The workscope of the $500-million project involves engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the 512-km long, 36-in diameter gas pipeline and associated facilities (metering station, compressor station, telecommunication equipment, and operations' offices) from the proposed Sabah oil and gas terminal in Kimanis, Sabah, to Petronas' LNG complex in Bintulu, Sarawak. 90km of the pipeline will be in Sabah, and 422km in Sarawak. With a three-year duration, the project is expected to commence imminently, and to be completed by early in 2011.
