A MEMORANDUM of understanding between the Georgian Government and the White Stream Group was signed on 2 April in Tbilisi. The MoU pledges the Government support to the implementation of the White Stream gap Pipeline which will transport Caspian-produced gas from Georgia to the European Union via an ultra-deepwater pipeline across the Black Sea.
White Stream will design and build the pipeline to take gas from Georgia to Romania, from where it will be extended into the heart of Europe, following the route of the proposed Constanta-Trieste oil pipeline. The White Stream representatives stated in Tbilisi that mechanical completion of the pipeline system and associated compressor station and terminal will be completed in approximately six years. White Stream is not competing with the Nabucco pipeline and that the two projects should be seen as complementary and part of the Southern Gas Corridor promoted by the European Union.
