Nabucco Gas Pipeline International has welcomed the signing of a declaration and contract for the sales and transportation of gas from Azerbaijan to Turkey and Europe.
The contract was signed by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yıldız and Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev and came in the same week that the Turkish parliament ratified the agreement to construct the Nabucco Gas Pipeline, which will deliver 20–30 Bcm/a of Caspian gas to Europe.
The cost of constructing the 3,300 km Nabucco Pipeline is estimated at $US7.9 billion, and will transfer natural gas through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Austria, bypassing Russia.
Construction of gas pipeline is planned to be launched in 2011 and first supplies are expected for 2014.
