US-based GUEU Inc envisages a 24-in diameter, approx. 650-km long, pipeline that will be laid in very deep waters, in excess of 2,000m. Pre-feasibility studies are under way and are expected to be completed by the end of the year. The pipeline will make it possible to deliver more gas from Azerbaijan and the abundant Caspian Sea resources via Georgia directly to the Ukrainian gas network and on to Eastern and Central Europe, giving a major boost to gas supply availability and improved energy security to the EU. GUEU representatives Giorgi Vashakmadze and Roberto Pirani will present the project at the 5th Georgian International Oil, Gas, Energy and Infrastructure Conference in Tbilisi, Georgia, on 16-17 March. Giorgi Vashakmadze is a director of the GUEU, and an adviser for energy resource supply and transit negotiation. Roberto Pirani is also a director of GUEU, and chief executive of London-based Pipeline Systems Engineering Ltd, a specialist pipeline-engineering consultancy.
