Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria has awarded Saipem Contracting Nigeria a contract to construct a pipeline system that will gather associated gas currently being flared at the Otumara and Saghara fields in Western Niger Delta, for use in the domestic gas market, local news sources have reported.
The 42 km pipeline will range in diameter from 2–12 inches, passing through swampy terrain and will include a major river crossing.

The pipeline will transport 30 MMcf/d of gas from the fields to a gas processing plant, which will be constructed by Daewoo Engineering and Construction Co. The processed gas will then be transported through the Escravos – Lagos Pipeline System.
