The proposed 914 mm diameter pipeline will be 77 km in length and extend from an existing interconnection on the Gordondale Lateral, near Bay Tree, Alberta, to a meter station in the Groundbirch area of northeast British Columbia, and form part of TransCanada's existing Alberta System.
The project is intended to connect sweet natural gas supply from the Motney formation in northeast British Columbia, Canada, and will be Canada’s first federally regulated facility for the transportation of shale gas from Western Canada.
NOVA must meet 30 conditions outlined by the NEB before it can be granted permission to begin operation of the pipeline. These include conditions regarding pipeline integrity, protection of the environment and public, and aboriginal consultation. Specifically, NOVA must consult with Duncan’s First Nation and Horse Lake First Nation concerning detailed route alignment and the potential impact of the pipeline on traditional land uses.
It is expected that the pipeline will be operational in late 2010.
